Vintage Cupid Earrings 1980s ‘New Romantic’ 3.25” Long Chandelier Drop Pierced Earrings of 3-D Bronze Cherubs Holding Love’s Arrows with Jeweled Dangles of Miniature Cupids, Faux Rubies, Amethysts & Pink Sapphires. Shoulder dusters! Big dramatic runway jewelry with eye-catching movement; they swing & sway like mobiles.
3 dimensional, highly sculptural, finely detailed. Beautiful patina, excellent condition. Lighter than they look and comfy to wear.
The Cupids are in the Classical Baroque style of Angelic Putti. The two cherubs curve gently facing towards each other and framing your face. One brandishes Love's bow & arrow, the other Love's torch. The upper jewels at earlobes are faux Rubies, the middle jeweled dangles are a cool Lavender Lilac Blue Violet shade of Amethyst, and the bottom marquise shaped dangles look like faceted Pink Sapphires.
These fabulous earrings are from my personal collection, purchased in about 1985 when the '1980s New Romantic' style was featured in Vogue. I’ve never seen any earrings like them.
Fun to bling out your evening gown, but they also look wonderful accentuated with a simple solid color top – the dramatic jewelry draws all eyes to your face.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. Lovely little areas of patina on the metal. Pierced with cushion backs. Very comfortable to wear; not heavy. Clean and ready to wear or give. Complimentary gift box.
