WHAT ARE THEY?
Simple drop earrings with real rubies, a luscious deep purple-ish red, hand-faceted and set in hand-oxidized Sterling Silver bezels. Easy to wear every day!
SIZE AND SPECS
The earrings dangle approx. 1-1/8" long (28.6mm), within hand-oxidized Sterling Silver bezels and Ear Wires. The stones are approx. 5/8" long (16mm), bezel set in oxidized Sterling Silver. A "Bezel Setting" is a metal rim that encircles the sides of a stone and holds it securely.
WHY RUBIES?
In the ancient Sanskrit, ruby is called "ratnaraj," the King of Gemstones. Rubies are mentioned four times in the Bible, associated with attributes like beauty and wisdom. In the first century AD, the Roman scholar Pliny included rubies in his Natural History, describing their hardness and density. Ancient Hindus believed that those who offered fine rubies to the god Krishna were granted rebirth as emperors. Ruby retained its importance with the birth of the western world and remains one of the most sought-after gems of European royalty and the upper classes. Ruby is the birthstone for July and the gem for the 15th and 40th anniversaries.
